New Setting: Receive Timeout Notifications?
Posted on January 25th, 2009 by Chris Coyier
One of the most common causes of Are My Sites Up marking a site as down is the Timeout error. If your site took longer than 10 seconds to respond, we mark it as down and then move on. For Premium Users (coming soon), we actually double-check sites that timeout before marking as down.
There is a good chance that if your site has timed out, it is not actually down. This has been our biggest offender as far as sending “false” down notifications. False isn’t quite the right word, because your site really was very slow to respond to our request, and you may want to look into what was causing that.
Now you can decide for yourself if you want to be notified of Timeout errors on your sites or not, just a checkbox in your settings page. If you are getting a lot of these and find that your site is fine, just uncheck the box and save to disable them.

Well needed and well appreciated. Thanks guys an kudos on keeping up the great work. aremysitesup has become invaluable to me!
Right on Greg. I was excited about this one too, very useful to me personally.
